So I do come from a Nashville, and I do write a lot of country, but I also love to write all kinds of music, pop and jazz.

So I'm gonna jazz it up a little bit tonight.

I was with a significant other, and they used this line a lot and it was, I love you even though.

I'm like, what does that mean?

Is that like a backhanded compliment, or a front-handed, well, not compliment, right?

It goes like.

Yeah, I heard that line I was like, I know I can get something out of this relationship.

- It's interesting as a songwriter, you know, when you're a young blossoming songwriter, well, at least when I was young, I used to write a lot of sad love songs, life experience, right?

And then you get married, and then you write happy love songs, and then you have kids, and you write songs about your kids.

- And you have two beautiful children.

- They're amazing.

And they've changed my life in so many wonderful ways.

but I wrote this song for my kids.

It's called "I Love You to the Moon and Back," or "To the Moon and Back."

You know, this is really fun.

This is the second round I've ever done.

The first one being last night with a couple of other writers.

So it's a lot of fun to play with other people.

Especially since these are songs that I'm hearing for the very first time and Donna's like, yes, you'll play along with me.

I'm like, yeah sure, what are we doing exactly?

So, you know, and the other thing is, you know, I haven't really performed a lot of these songs because a lot of the stuff that I do is in full production, or with a full band.

So translating, you know, a piece of music to just the piano and vocals is interesting 'cause I don't really consider myself a singer per se, especially with these two amazingly talented singers, so.

Anyways, this is something I wrote a while ago.

It was a suggestion as a mantra by we'll call it a therapist.

I was struggling with some stuff, you know.

COVID had just happened.

And I'll just let this song.

- So basically my world was coming to an end, and the therapist said, "Well just, what if nothing's wrong?"

And I was like, let me think about that.

And I went home and that was that, so.

So I sent that to her and she's like, "This is great.

Can I play this for my other clients?"

I'm like, only if you tell me who they are.

- Ah, what a great song.

This next song is called "No Rain, No Rainbow."

- Who'd you write that with?

- I wrote that with my buddy, CJ.

So I'm gonna tell a little story about my buddy, CJ.

Everything I'm singing tonight I wrote with my friend, CJ.

He passed away a few years ago, and this is one of the ways I feel like you can still share him with everybody.

He was one of the most warm, happy human beings.

- And that's how we met in Nashville.

- [Dani] That's how we met.

- That's how we met.

- Yeah, he brought me down here too.

- [Donna] Yep, and he brought both of us down here.

- He did, we met down here sort of in a car down here.

- [Donna] No, we met in Nashville.

- We met in the car though, and then we drove down here.

She's like, whatever.

- And I love her.

- We have two different stories.

One of the other things I do I'm a music supervisor, and I license songs, and my job is to find the music that fits the movie.

This song that we're getting ready to do has been written for a movie that is in script phase.

And I have been given the green light to play it this evening it is, and they do really like it.

- All right, so when I'm writing, you know a lot of times I kinda get pretty obscure with my ideas and thoughts because my life seems pretty obscure.

Like not connected to, like, everything else the way that I think a lot of people see it, so.

I asked myself what is a universal kind of theme?

You know?

'Cause I want a chorus that people can all relate to.

And when writing this one it was definitely one of those moments where I'm like, wow, this is all really kinda personal to me, and kinda introspective and introverted.

So, you know, I had the thought, okay, everybody needs sunshine.

So basically this song is called "Sunshine."

And we'll see if I can get it right.
